Daytona College believes that the needs of today’s complex employment market make it necessary for an individual to possess every available competitive advantage. Medical Therapeutic Massage - Associate of Science (Associate Degree)
The Medical Therapeutic Massage program combines training in massage therapy and knowledge and training in medical office procedures, documentation, the assessment and treatment of sports related injuries and massage interventions. The program is designed to prepare graduates to perform duel roles in the allied health and spa industry as a massage therapist. The medical therapeutic massage program provides training in therapeutic massage with knowledge of structure and function of the human body. Students receive training in massage therapy procedures and techniques, allied modalities, hydrotherapy, law and ethics, the prevention of medical errors, assessment, medical office procedures, documentation, sports massage and current trends in the spa industry. The General education courses prepare the graduate with advanced decision making skills in various capacities in the massage therapy and skin care field. The program prepares students for the Florida State Board examination for licensure for massage therapists in the state of Florida. The licensed graduate is qualified for entry-level employment as a Licensed Massage Therapist and may be employed in a medical facility, health spa, day spa, or as an independent contractor. The graduate can demonstrate communication and employability skills and can apply professional and appropriate ethics to all areas of the job. The medical therapeutic program consists of 101 quarter credit hours and 1200 contact hours of instruction and clinic practice. An Associate of Science degree is awarded to a student upon successful completion of all graduation requirements listed in the catalog
